Cheesy Cakes!

"Unknown"
Not the one he Made!!

I came back home from a long tiring day,
To a waft of baked scones and chocolaty cake,
I smiled as I entered the house in a haste,
The living room abandoned, the kitchen a waste...
Mr. Husband took upon himself to cook me some sweets,
His nose powdered with flour, his hands dipped in cheese,
I wondered what the cheese was for,
Before I took to cleaning the floor!
He lovingly banished me from the kitchen,
And later that night we had cake for dinner,
Too long forgotten in the overheated oven,
With cheesy icing and a bit hardened,
Lovingly made by Mr. Husband for me,
I forgot all follies in a hurry to eat!

  8. Ah, husbands. They do mean well. Once when my husband was beginning to learn to cook, he surprised me with dinner. I'd had an awful day and was starved. Yet, we wound up eating after 10:00 pm. And yes, the kitchen was a mess. But - gotta love him.

  9. I enjoyed the sweetness behind the words, your husband's for wanting to make that cake and your eagerness to eat it despite its shortcomings.

  10. What a treat...to come home to homemade treats! I bet those scones and chocolate cake were much more delicious than if you had made them yourself.

  11. Actually, this sounds very good to me! I don't have a husband, boyfriend, or magical kitchen spirit to make treats for me. I like to try new recipes and give them to my son to sample. Some are hits, some are misses. I'm no Julia Child, to be sure.
Thank you for visiting Poetry of the Netherworld, and for your kind comment on my memorial poem for my father.

  16. Ha, ha! Sounds a bit like my efforts in the kitchen. But it's also a case of "from your hands my love, all tastes like ambrosia, even if it's poison..."
