Disheartened!

"Unknown"
A painting by John Godward!

Whirling in a storm of self created bonds,
Expectations floating past like a fragment of cloud,
Hoping against hope that it would be clear,
Today so close, so near, so dear...

Filled with surprise of reluctant pleasure,
Heartily disheartened and writhing in treasure,
Loving him for it was easy to love,
Than to hate such ghastly, soulless monster!

Unable to quench the thirst for riches,
Unable to leave him despite the glitches,
Unable to conquer the lust of his intimacy,
Unable to love his tyranny and treachery!

She whimsically thought of coiled rope,
And smiled as she wrapped her neck in a loop!

I'm not quite sure I wanted it to be this dark but I finally finished this poem thanks to all the Garden dwellers!
Special thanks to Annell, George, Jim, Isadora, Helen, Kerry and Marian!
This is what I could come up with from my Poem In Progress that I shared on Imaginary Garden With Real Toads last Wednesday and got some wonderful insights!
Thank you All!

  4. Such darkness -- still so nicely packaged.. the repetitions worked so well to increase the sadness

  5. I think the darkness was inevitable for this one. There was such an air of violence, after this lines: "Loving him for it was easy to love /Than to hate such ghastly, soulless monster!" As if only an extreme would fix/end/ease the hurt.

It causes my mind to gaze at stormy echoes of "Porphyria's Lover", by the way...

  6. Well, that was a great success! the communal poem growing into this wonderfully competent sonnet.

  7. Oh no, not the loop! Hoping she awakes from her moment and is reborn with all the life about her! She, with tender heart has far too much to offer.

    1. If only she 'd realise that... but she seems naive maybe even trapped to me....

  8. She seemed doomed from the start. Makes me wonder how much control you had of this poor character! Joking. But realistically, sometimes we have no choice and don't even know someone's in trouble until she's gone.

  9. It came out really nice, Arushi. It had to end, you did it up good, like a soap opera ridding itself of a used up character. Thanks for the mention, I do think you got out of the box here really fine.
I think we all ought to be able to write dark poetry, just don't let it get hold of you or make it habit forming.

    So unsatisfied with herself
Not happy with what she had thought
Thought it would be their perfect love
    Disheartened, mired, one way out
