The Unopened Door!

"Arushi"
A picture taken somewhere in Goa!! I dont really remember the name of the place but it was some old Castle!
The picture of what I may see beyond is yet unknown to me,
I tread upon the glassy floor careful yet eagerly.
I can hear my stomach flip inside as I hear my excitement,
For was it not an old proverb that curiosity killed the cat?
I wish I didn't ever have to decide whether to open the door,
For even I know inside of me it will change my life for good...
I am curious, a bit intrigued, a little excited,
A little scared, a little braved, a little blinded!
I have waged a war aginst myself for a long long time...
I stand here at the brink of adventure reckless and ready for a fight...
I reach ahead to grasp the knob, my mind flooded
With pictures of war and little scuffles of imagined fairytales...
Of butterflies and caravans and children playing in the park,
Of vibrant colours and marigolds of darkening shadows and blood...
Of love and fascination and of lust and dreadful pain,
Of picket fences and green gardens, of hate and disdain...
Swallowing my fears away and shaking in my knees
I finally opened The Unopened Door without any keys!!

  1. nice...its a scary thing...knowing not what lies beyond the door...and leaving the security and comfort of where we are now....but what is on the other side is life...and not just an existence....

  2. Arushi, I like this poem very much: it's spirited, animated and about a threshold that we all come to more than once in our lives. You have a natural feeling for the poetic and beautiful with strong images. I wish your posting was new and written for this prompt, the challenge of the day at Poets United--which is the fun and spirit of writing to a fresh prompt for a poetry blog site.

  5. The end line says it all - the real keys are always inside..and love the line a little braved, a little blinded - so true of all us if we were honest to admit it!

  6. Ha, many times in life it seems a person stands before a door and wonders if they should enter or not. If one enters a door without a key, I think that must be a sign that one has chosen the correctdoor. Smiles.

  9. This was so magical, especially the internal battle within and how the protagonist overcomes it so positively ...to the extent that no key is needed. Wow! I loved how the whole poem made me think of wide open spaces and a journey through one's self. A search for utopia.

  13. One often faces the dilemma! Not knowing what to expect is itself such a put-off. Sometimes one would not even venture forth to find out and let it be! Nicely Arushi!
