The pointy turrets, the mossy towers,
The arched windows, the doors carved,
The gargoyles standing guard for long
Perched atop the golden gong-
That was struck upon for many a years,
By slaves and servants when master nears,
After a battle or a victory or loss
from enemy's clutches for no apparent cause!
The silken red carpets thread bare and worn,
The wooden floorboards of teak adorn,
Staled by age and many a footsteps,
some in hurry, others in fest,
Of little children and servants and princes,
Of master himself, his wife or mistress,
All climbing to the splendid halls above
Of glory, riches, royalty yet no love!
I walk the same stairs today
where many a Kings walked some day,
In the hackneyed castle of years ago,
The gargoyles failed to save the slow
Rusting of its bejewelled rails,
The cracked and broken chandeliers,
The fine cashmere worn out curtains,
From the evil clutches of Time's Bane!
